They grew up hungry, poor, neglected, abused, and marginalized. Many had to work full time as child laborers. Their earnings went to help their families survive. None of it stopped them. Today they are engineers, doctors, medical professors, educators, authors, research scientists and leaders elected to government office.
What they have accomplished, in defiance of all odds and adversity, is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. Their stories, of turning poverty and hopelessness into personal and professional success, reminds audiences that anything is indeed possible, not only for the select few, but all.
